Dennis Lehane

Dennis Lehane was born in 1966, in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He is the youngest of five kids, and His father was a foreman for Sears & Roebuch and his mother worked in a Boston public school cafeteria. He graduated from Boston College High School and then attended Emerson College and UMass in Boston (for 1 year each). He graduated with a BA from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.

After college, he held numerous jobs, including working in bookstores and as a counselor for mentally handicapped and abused children. He then received a fellowship to the Graduate Writing Program at Florida International University in Miami. After graduation, he turned his attention to writing but took several odd jobs (parking cars, driving limos) in order to pay the bills.

His novel Mystic River was made into an Academy Award winning film directed by Clint Eastwood. A movie adaptation of Gone, Baby, Gone has been announced and may be released in 2006.

He makes his home in the Boston, Massachusetts area. In aiddition to writing full-time, Dennis also teaches lit and creative writing.
