Bio

Ellen Hart

Ellen Hart was born in Minneapolis in August of 1949. She earned a B.A. in Theology from Ambassador College, in Pasadena, California. She got a job at the college (teaching assistant in the Home Economics/Interior Design department) but decided in 1975 that she'd had enough and moved back to Minnesota. She worked for twelve years as a kitchen manager at a University of Minnesota sorority.

She had always been interested in crime novels, but it wasn't until 1987 that she started to write a mystery. After writing about 200 pages, she felt that she didn't know what she was doing, so she decided to research by becoming a voracious reader of the mystery genre. It obviously paid off, and in 1989, her first book was published. She kept writing, and has now written numerous books in two popular series. The first series features lesbian restaurateur Jane Lawless and her wisecracking friend Cordelia Thorn. The second series is a culinary series featuring the husband & wife sleuthing team of Bram Baldric and Sophie Greenway.

Ellen still lives in Minnesota with her partner of over 23 years, Kathy. In addition to writing, she teaches mystery writing at the University of Minnesota and at the Loft LIterary Center.
