Bio

Jeffery Deaver

Jeffery was born in 1950, in Chicago. He attended the University of Missouri and earned a degree in journalism. He went on to Fordham University (New York) where he earned a law degree.

He practiced civil law (at the Wall Street legal firm of Lord, Day & Lord) for a number of years, but gave it up in 1990 so that he could write full-time. (During the time he was practicing law, Jeffery wrote his 'Rune' series; they are being reissued by Bantam Books.)

In addition to his writing and stint as a lawyer, Jeffery has also worked as a folk singer, songwriter, music researcher and professional poet. His sister, Julie Reece Deaver, is also a writer; she writes young adult novels.

His work been published under the names Jeffery Deaver, Jeffery Wilds Deaver and William Jefferies. He has been nominated for Edgar Awards four times and has received the Ellery Queen Readers Award for Best Short Story of the year, twice. His books have been translated into a dozen languages and have been made into movies. A Maiden's Grave was made into an HBO film (with the title Dead Silence), and The Bone Collector became a huge hit as a feature film by Universal Studios.

Jeffery now splits his time between California, New York and Virginia. He is divorced with no children, but shares his life with his large German Shepherd. When he is not busy writing, he enjoys cooking, travelling, collecting wine and entertaining.
