Nevada Barr
Bio
Nevada, who was name after a favourite character in one of her father's books, was born in 1952 (in Nevada!). She grew up in Northern California, near the Lassen Volcanic National Park (which served as the setting for her Firestorm novel). Her parents were both pilots and ran a small mountain airport in Susanville, California. Nevada went on to attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and the University of California at Irvine, earning a Master's degree in acting. She moved to New York and performed in a variety of Off-Broadway shows.
From New York, she moved to Minneapolis and continued with her acting. Her (then) husband was involved with Park Service, which inspired Nevada's interest in wildlife conservation and her eventual career change. In addition to her successful career as a mystery novelist, she has worked as a National Park Service Ranger in the US. The majority of her novels are set in National Parks, and the main character, Anna Pigeon, is herself a Park Ranger.
She has written 9 novels and various short stories. In 1994, she was awarded both an Agatha Award and an Anthony Award for Best First Novel. She lives with her current husband in Clinton, Mississippi.
